Motley Crue’s “Girls” turns 30, intoxicated classic gets repackaging treatment

It’s amazing how the music I grew up listening to is considered classic rock. I can’t believe I’m actually going to say that Mötley Crüe’s Girls, Girls, Girls has turned 30 this year. Girls will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s actually the first Crüe album I purchased in the store. I stole Shout At The Devil from my brother and I ended up buying Girls and Theater of Pain together. The rest is history—a very turbulent history.

Girls, Girls, Girls, at the time, was Mötley’s highest chart topping album. The album reached #2 on the Billboard 200. It was a crazy time for the band. Probably the craziest time. Most of the band was extremely intoxicated and/or high during the recording that most of the members cannot even recall the time in the studio. The tour was also cut short and eventually cancelled because of excessive drug use and constant run-ins with the law wherever the Mötley circus was in town. Nikki Sixx eventually overdosed and was pronounced dead. This inspired the band to collectively enter rehab and clean up together. Although the madness nearly broke the band, it didn’t hurt their popularity. Fans actually embraced their antics. If the reputation of being the most notorious band of all time wasn’t claimed, Mötley Crüe was unofficially awarded that title.

Girls, Girls, Girls is being repackaged in bundles that will be available on August 25 via Pledge Music. Various bundles include colored vinyl, cassette tape, commemorative poster/lithograph, vintage t-shirt, vinyl test pressings, a limited-edition, numbered drum head, a flexi single of “Wild Side,” and a “Girls, Girls, Girls” patch. -NzaSixx
